The Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) methodology in teaching English as a Second Language is student-centered and emphasizes the use of language for communication in real-life situations.
In CLT, the role of the teacher is different from that of traditional ESL teaching methods. In the traditional classroom, the teacher is the focus and is responsible for the content of the course and the motivation of the learners. In CLT, the teacher serves as a facilitator, allowing students to share responsibility, set goals, and take charge of their own language learning.
Reading is an important part of learning any language, specially when you plan on using the language in an academic or professional setting. The Lumos teaching approach gives our students the opportunity to practice reading through editorials, magazines as well as university level books to help our students to follow any kind of reading material.
In modern communication writing is an essential part to anyone wanting to communicate in another language. Throughout your course students will be challenged with different writing assignments and essays constructed to help prepare them to efficiently communicate using their writing skills.
Proper pronunciation is a concern for any student listening to a new language. With our teachers being native speakers of the English language our students can be confident that they are being taught proper pronunciation and language delivery clearly and effectively.
Perhaps the most challenging part when learning English for most students is the speaking part. At Lumos Language School students will be challenged to practice speaking with native speakers as well as receive important feedback about their strong and weak points with our methodology. When practicing speaking it is extremely important to do so with native speakers of the language to ensure proper pronunciation and sentence structure.
